Bloomsburg Falls to Kutztown in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG -The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team fell to Kutztown 71-52 on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

The Huskies got on the board first when Stephanie Jones (Philadelphia/Manor College) and Brea Lewis (Philadelphia/Frankford) hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Huskies a quick 6-0 advantage. Kutztown would respond with a 15-0 run over the next 3:40 before a Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) jumper cut the Kutztown lead down to six, 17-9.

The Golden Bears would be up by as many as 14 in the first half, but the Huskies would make a run in the final minutes. A three-pointer by Jones and lay-ups by Kegerreis and Monica Dennison (Zion Grove/Hazleton Area) cut the Kutztown lead down to nine, 38-29, at the end the first period.

In the second half, the Huskies would respond. Kegerreis would score eight points in the first three minutes of the second half, and Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) knocked down a three-pointer to cut the Kutztown lead down to two, 44-42 with 15:44 left to go in the ball game. From there, the Golden Bears would take control of the game. Rachel Wisemiller and Lisi Reyna would propel Kutztown out to a 20 point lead they would never relinquish.

Kegerreis led the charge for the Huskies scoring 16 points, while Jones and Dennison both added nine.

The Huskies return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Chester. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
